Keeping up to date with employment law

Unless you're an HR professional it's impossible to keep up to date with employment law.

If you get things wrong it's very disruptive and could cost you a lot of money in legal expenses if you're sued for injury or unfair dismissal.

Your responsibilities as an employer

There's quite a few! They include:
  • Fair recruitment, promotion and dismissal policies
  • Proper contracts and job descriptions
  • Meeting the minimum paid holiday requirements
  • When to allow unpaid leave
  • A formal grievance procedure
  • Running a Payroll
  • Collecting the right amount of tax and national insurance
  • The right insurance
  • The health and safety and well-being of everyone who works for you

And it's changing all the time, eg recent legislation making it easier to dismiss under-performing staff.

But here's an online HR software toolkit that helps you manage your staff as individuals as well as making sure you stay within the law.  The system is called YouManage.  It's generally suitable for any organisation with more than 5 employees and is used by general managers and HR professionals alike.

In a nutshell YouManage will
  • Reduce HR administration and support costs
  • Help you improve and deliver consistency of HR processes
  • Keep you up to date on relevant legislation
  • Provide document templates to make sure most standard documents and letters are created correctly
  • Improve the recording and tracking of key tasks and information
  • Ensure line managers are properly equipped and supported
